The Annual Governance Statement is a statutory document which explains the processes and procedures in place to enable the council to carry out its functions effectively.
The purpose of the annual governance statement is for an authority to report publicly on its arrangement for ensuring that its business is conducted in accordance with the law, regulation and proper practices and that public money is safeguarded and properly accounted for.
The statement is produced following a review by external auditors of the council’s governance arrangements, and includes an action plan to address any significant governance issues identified.
